Radio Clyde has blocked any advertising that features its former presenter Suzie McGuire following her move to prime competitor GO Radio.

McGuire left the radio show in 2014 during the build-up to a court case against her husband Derek Mitchell, who was later convicted of three assaults on her and ordered to do 300 hours of community service last year.

McGuire has worked in radio occasionally with Radio Scotland since she left Clyde, and is now set to star in a new stage play at the King’s Theatre, called 'Mum’s The Word'. Producer of the show Robert C. Kelly said that he was “stunned” to discover the radio station is not allowing McGuire’s name to be mentioned in any radio adverts for the show.

Kelly said: “I think it is an abuse of power for Radio Clyde to refuse me advertising because an ex-employee is in the show. I can’t see that their licence would permit them to exercise a right of veto over ads which are simply promoting a show.”

McGuire was recently named as a presenter for new Glasgow-based radio station GO Radio, a competitor of Radio Clyde. In an email seen by the Evening Times to 'Mum’s The Word's' producers, Radio Clyde cited McGuire’s move to GO Radio as “unfortunate timing” given it is GO Radio’s aim to “dominate us within in the marketplace” and therefore not in the station’s best interests to promote McGuire.

In response, producer Kelly slammed the station’s decision as “petty” and “lacking in any real judgment”, adding that the veto is a case of the Clyde bosses “having their noses pushed out of joint”.
