Chris Evans admits Top Gear team atmosphere was ‘apocalyptic’ after Clarkson assault
New Top Gear host Chris Evans has assured fans of the franchise that his new team will not be shaking up the format too much.
Evans, who will lead the show upon its return to TV screens in May, has said he will not be creating “the next incarnation of Top Gear,” as much as he will just be providing the “next show” in the series.
He admitted that Clarkson’s “unprovoked physical attack” on a member of the production staff had caused a “sort of Armageddon” in the team, with “lone warrior” producer Alex Renton being one of the few to remain for the upcoming series
However, he conceded that it will be difficult to replicate the chemistry previously exhibited by former hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
He will however have a team of his own, reportedly David Coulthard, Sabine Schmitz and Chris Harris.
The comments were made in the US during a press tour to promote the show which will air on BBC America.
