News UK has announced that Daisy Dunlop will take on the role of group's director of communications, a promotion from her previous role as News Corporation’s deputy head of communications at its headquarters in New York.

Dunlop will replace Guto Harri, who has moved to Virgin Media-owner Liberty Global after three years in the role.

More reshuffling by News UK has promoted Helen Collier to deputy director of communications from her previous role of head of communications.

Dunlop has been with the company since 2001, holding various executive roles in the PR sector. She moved to the New York office in February 2013, prior to the split of News Corporation in June 2013 into two divisions; the publishing arm which kept the News Corp name, and the entertainment arm which became 21st Century Fox.

Dunlop will report to News UK chief executive Rebekah Brooks, who returned to the publisher in August 2015 after a phone hacking scandal saw her resign earlier in the year. Brooks commented on the hire of Dunlop: “There will be a renewed focus by the comms team on giving external visibility to this and to areas where we have important revenue streams, as well as to the ongoing digital innovation of our business.”

Dunlop will take on her new role in mid-February, and said of her promotion: "News UK is a true investor in professional journalism and its audiences are loyal and valuable to advertisers. I look forward to ensuring that this story gets the visibility it deserves."
