Sony PlayStation Network hit by first outage of 2016
Sony has kicked off 2016 in poor fashion after suffering a fresh outage of its PlayStation Network online gaming service with users attempting to log-in being presented with an error message as engineers scramble to rectify the issue.
The fault has brought down the full gamut of PlayStation portals including account management, social, video store and music services.
Sony hasn’t yet revealed the cause of the downtime but posted a status update saying: “You may have some difficulty signing in or creating an account on PlayStation Network. Our engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, and we thank you for your patience.”
Sony has long been a target for hackers keen to court publicity by pushing the service offline by bombarding it with spam requests for access although it proved robust enough to survive the holiday period itself unscathed, despite an influx of new users.
