Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg takes inspiration from Marvel's Jarvis to build an AI butler

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg wants to be the next Iron Man after revealing that he has taken inspiration from the Marvel movies to build an AI butler similar to the one created by character Tony Stark.

Likening his vision of a digital helper to Marvel’s AI butler Jarvis, he said “you can think of it kind of like Jarvis in Iron Man”. As Marvel’s recent 'The Avengers' sequel featured the uprising of rogue AI Ultron, the movie comparison may not help quell the fears of those fearing the untapped potential of artificial intelligence.

However, setting out his 2016 challenge on his social network, Zuckerberg posted on Facebook: “I'm going to start by exploring what technology is already out there, then I'll start teaching it to understand my voice to control everything in our home - music, lights, temperature and so on.

“ll teach it to let friends in by looking at their faces when they ring the doorbell. I'll teach it to let me know if anything is going on in Max's room that I need to check on when I'm not with her.

“On the work side, it'll help me visualize data in VR to help me build better services and lead my organizations more effectively,” he concluded.

He claimed he will solely work on the coding of the system, building a basic shell and adding to it as he can.
