The new presenters to join Chris Evans in the revamped Top Gear series have been announced as motoring journalist Chris Harris, German racing driver Sabine Schmitz and Formula One racer David Coulthard.

Sabine Schmitz is a racing driver for Porshe and BMW. In 2004 Schmitz appeared on Top Gear, racing ex-presenter Jeremy Clarkson around German racing track Nurburgring. Schmitz has also spent time presenting on German TV show ‘D Motor’, a show following a similar set up to that of Top Gear involving driving challenges.

Chris Harris is a motoring journalist who has worked as a reviewer, writer, and editor for many car magazines, including Evo and Autocar. Harris runs a YouTube channel ‘Chris Harris On Cars’ which has gathered a considerable following of 321,000 subscribers.

Harris has previously run into controversy when receiving a temporary ban from writing reviews on Ferraris after publishing an article describing the brand as ‘profoundly irritating’. He also received a ban from reviewing Lamborghinis after calling the future of the company as ‘bleak’ and writing an article titled ‘Lamborghinis are the perfect car for people who can’t drive’. Not afraid to say what he thinks, Harris is tipped as the Clarkson equivalent in the revamped show. His experience doesn’t stop at just motoring journalist; Harris has made a career in racing, winning his first race in 2000 at the Formula Power Audi.

David Coulthard drove for Williams, McLaren and Red Bull in his racing career between 1994 and 2008. He was runner up in the World Drivers’ Championship in 2001. Coulthard retired from Formula One in 2008, when he took up the role of BBC commentator and pundit for their Formula One coverage.

This news comes just days after executive producer Lisa Clark announced she was stepping down from her role after just five months, declaring she was “moving on from Top Gear to new projects”.
