Apple has appointed Grey Worldwide’s chief creative officer Tor Myhren to the role of vice president of marketing and communications.

Myhren, who was also president of the agency’s New York shop, will be responsible for Apple's advertising efforts.

His appointment comes at the same time as Jeff Williams’ promotion to chief operating officer, a role that has been empty since Tim Cook became chief executive four years ago.

Williams joined the company in 1998 and has most recently been in charge of overseeing its supply chain as well as the Apple Watch.

Of his appointment, Cook said: “Jeff is hands-down the best operations executive I’ve ever worked with.”

Johny Srouji, who has been with Apple for eight years, is also joining its executive team as senior vice president for hardware technologies.
