The National Basketball Association (NBA) has become the first organisation to surpass 1bn loops on Vine.

Game highlights, behind-the-scenes access and unique content from players all contributed to the sporting body's win, but a full-court shot by LeBron James made up the bulk of the loops with more than 22m views.

The NBA joined the platform in 2013, launching its channel with a Vine of Chris Bosh practicing three-pointers during the NBA finals, and has since clocked up more than 1.45 million followers.

2015 has seen the league go heavy on social; the Finals in June generated 173m interactions on Facebook with LeBron clocking up twice as many mentions as any other player.

Additionally, the organisation made its 'Real Training Camp' simulcast series available on Facebook and launched its #ThisIsWhyWePlay campaign on Twitter.

From 2014-2015 NBA.com and the NBA app have amassed a collective 4.2bn views from fans around the world - a new league record for most video plays in a season.

To celebrate the milestone, the NBA will be re-sharing some of its most-looped Vines and posting custom content with special archived highlights of NBA legends.
