The Sony boss confirmed on his Twitter account that PlayStation’s remote play service, which allows PS4 users to stream a game running on their PlayStation 4 console to another device through an app, will soon be made available on both Windows and Mac OS X.

Yoshida’s decision to break the news at the onset of Black Friday is unlikely to be a coincidence given significance of the day for both parties console sales.

The competition between the companies traditionally intensifies during the festive period, which is hugely significant in determining the long-term success of the brands, and so the news could persuade the millions of Black Friday shoppers to pledge their allegiance to PlayStation over Microsoft.

PlayStation has been out-selling Xbox since the two released their next-gen consoles at the end of 2013. The Sony-owned brand has also offered lower prices of its PS4 on Black Friday which is going for £199.99 compared to Xbox One which is on sale for £223.99.

Xbox App currently lets users to stream gameplay from an Xbox One to a remote PC while PlayStation’s Remote Play service allows gamers to free up their TV and continue to play their game on the brand’s handheld devices such as Xperia smartphones and the PS Vita.

Opening up the service to PC and Mac’s will allow Sony to push its brand across a wider platform than its rival and its president’s announcement at such a crucial sales point could see Sony come out on top on Black Friday.
