Walmart UK's senior director of marketing innovation and new revenues, Dom Burch is to contribute to The Drum with his new 'Thought of the Day' column.
Adapted from Burch’s popular blog of the same name, the appointment sees Burch’s musings move exclusively on to The Drum's website.
Trained in PR, Burch has spent the last 13 years in a variety of comms roles at Asda, including head of PR and head of social. His current role sees him oversee marketing innovation and help explore new revenue options for the retail giant. Burch’s team is also responsible for Asda’s ‘Mum’s Eye View’ on YouTube, capturing 11m views since its launch 18 months ago.
“I’m super excited to be moving my blog over to The Drum. It’s a privilege to get the chance to share my view of the ever changing world of social media marketing with a wider audience,” said Burch.
“I make no claims to have all the answers, but I’ve been lucky enough to try out some truly innovative things at Asda.
“I’m up for the debate on whether social media matters, does it pay back, can it compete with traditional, well-trodden broadcast media? If done right I think it can. But most marketeers don’t really get it yet.”
Stephen Lepitak, editor of The Drum commented: “Dom’s ‘Thought of the Day’ blog is a perfect fit for our platform and I’m delighted he’s decided to share it with us. As one of the UK's leading marketing communications practitioners, his insights into social media and second to none and I know our readers are ready to join Dom in some lively debate.”
