In the new post Smith will help promote more in-depth analysis and context on big stories in Scotland to the rest of the UK.

The Scotland 2015 presenter will be based at the BBC Scotland headquarters in Glasgow and will begin working in the new role early next year.

Smith will work to enhance coverage and analysis of significant stories for the pan-UK audience across the Six and Ten O’Clock News, the Today programme, radio bulletins and the BBC News website.

Gary Smith, BBC Scotland’s head of news and current affairs designate, made the announcement in an internal email to BBC Scotland staff today (19 November).

He said he was “delighted” to break the news and described Smith as “an outstanding journalist and broadcaster, who will bring many years of experience, great insight, and huge enthusiasm to the new job.”

Sarah began her career at BBC Scotland as a graduate production trainee before going on to work in Edinburgh, Washington and London for Channel 4 News. While at Channel 4 she became the Scotland Correspondent and covered major stories such as the first election to the Scottish Parliament and became the launch presenter of More4News. She returned to the BBC last year to present Scotland 2014 in the run-up to the independence referendum.
