World monuments display sign of solidarity for France with red, white and blue lights

Following last night's terrorist attacks in Paris the world has gone into mourning for the needless loss of life on such a huge scale and in a show of support for France monuments around the world have been illuminated in the colours of the French flag.

As Paris turned off the Eiffel Tower's lights in a sign of respect and mourning for the tragic loss of more than 120 lives, nations throughout the world displayed their solidarity by lighting up their most famous monuments red, white and blue.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that The One World Trade Center spire would be lit blue, white and red in respect of the event in Paris.

San Francisco City Hall is lit up with blue, white and red, the colors of the French flag.

In Calgary, Alberta Canada the Calgary Tower was lit up with the colors of the French flag.

Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer statue was also transformed with the red, white and blue colours.

Sydney Mayor Clover Moore said the Sydney Town Hall and Opera House would be illuminated on Saturday night.
