Twitter publishes One Direction emojis in search for band's biggest fans

Twitter has partnered with One Direction in a global bid to find the bands biggest fans, advertised by a series of customised emojis representing Liam, Louis, Harry and Niall, a group depiction and a representation of their new album Made in the A.M which is released today.

The social media campaign kicks off at midnight on Saturday and will invite the groups global fan base to demonstrate their loyalty by tweeting one of 140 designated country hashtags such as #1DAF for Afghanistan to #1DZW for Zimbabwe.

Live results will be relayed by Twitter throughout the competition with the ten most frequently tweeted countries receiving a custom-designed emoji for their troubles.

In the meantime fans can pick their favourite band member by using the hashtags #1DLouis, #1DHarry, #1DNiall, #1DLiam to generate the new emojis, or hedge their bets with a #1D and #MadeinTheAM.

#1DHarry emerged as an early winner in the contest, becoming Twitter’s top trending hashtag after their unveil.
