Manchester United are set to become the highest grossing football club ever with revenue expectations of over £510m by the end of the year.

Manchester United to become highest grossing club ever

A number of factors have contributed to the financial success which has been largely built around the £750m kit deal with Adidas which began this summer.

The addition of German World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger and Memphis Depay to the squad has also helped boost sales of the new Adidas strips. The 10 year sponsorship deal with the German sports giant has resulted in a 25.4 per cent increase in commercial revenue to £71.2m. The growing success of its commercial arm now makes up around 60 per cent of the Glazer-owned club’s revenue.

Its global appeal, which it says stretches to 659 million followers, has continued to prove lucrative with a host of sponsorship deals signed in the last few months. In August it inked a deal with Asian casino resorts firm Donaco, before going on to form deals with headwear company New Era and footwear company Heroes.

In order to attain the accolade of highest ever grossing football club the English Premier League team will have to surpass the £510m mark by the end of the year which no other club has ever achieved.

A return to the Uefa Champions League has also significantly bolstered the Old Trafford club’s healthy financials with matchday revenue up by 64 per cent.
