Twitter helps Pirelli pick purple for 2016 Formula One season tyres

Twitter users have helped Pirelli has set the wheels in motion for the 2016 Formula One season with its decision to plump for purple branding on its Ultrasoft tyres used in the motor sport.


Distinctive purple markings will adorn the sidewall of the tyres after fans were asked to choose their favourite hue in an online poll, with purple emerging as the overwhelming winner with 85 per cent of the vote in a straight head to head fight with silver.

To illustrate this Pirelli produced a handy infographic showing how sentiment switched depending upon which social media channel the question was asked, with Instagram and Twitter users being near unanimous in their choice of purple which claimed 93 per cent of all votes cast.

Twitter users were more muted in their support however with a significant minority of 31 per cent backing silver.
