Aurora prepares to hit it big with Oasis cover in John Lewis Christmas ad
John Lewis is launching its 2015 Christmas ad tomorrow morning and the artist gifted with the free pass to the top of the charts for the majority of the Christmas period is none other than… Norwegian singer Aurora.
The majority of people in the UK will have never heard of the 19 year-old but they soon will when she covers one of UK’s most beloved Britpop songs, “Half the World Away” by Oasis.
Her real name is Aurora Aksnes and she covered the song last week for the ad which is due to air at 8am tomorrow morning. Singed to Decca, a Universal label, her first single “Awakening” appeared online two years ago and her debut album is scheduled for a February 2016 release.
The teen has a distinctively melancholy sound to her music which she says was influenced by the dark skies of her hometown as well as inspiration from Bob Dylan and the Chemical Brothers.
Noel Gallagher will gain royalties for John Lewis’s decision to feature the song, which he wrote himself while with Oasis and grew in popularity after the BBC used it as the opening track for classic sitcom The Royal Family.
