McCann London has promoted its New York-based global chief marketing officer Alex Lubar as CEO of McCann London, a role he will begin transitioning to in January 2016.

Replacing incumbent Zaid Al-Zaidy, who is leaving the agency to pursue his ‘own ideas and seek a new type of creative opportunity’, Lubar will work alongside joint ECDs and presidents Rob Doubal and Lolly Thomson.

Harris Diamond, chairman and CEO of McCann Worldgroup, said: “As CMO, Alex’s multidiscipline approach to helping our clients navigate the complexities of the marketing business today and finding solutions to the challenges facing their brands has led to terrific opportunities for us and our clients. Becoming CEO of our growing London agency is the natural evolution of the job Alex has been doing globally with both new and existing clients.”

Mark Lund, CEO of McCann Worldgroup UK, added, “Alex is a charismatic and dynamic leader and integrator who will fit brilliantly with Rob and Lolly.

“Zaid has done a tremendous job of leading the change agenda at McCann London and he leaves behind a hungry, modern, creative agency. But we understand his desire to do something new and we wish him the very best in the future.”

Lubar first joined McCann in 2012 as CMO of McCann North America, winning new clients such as United States Postal Service, Lockheed Martin, Zurich Insurance, SABIC, and Jose Cuervo.

Latterly Lubar was promoted to CMO of Worldgroup where he added Microsoft and Reckitt Benckiser to the marketing services company’s client roster.
