A billboard campaign to save the Human Rights Act is being launched this week by activists concerned by Britain’s potential withdrawal from the legal framework after a crowdfunding campaign hit their £55k target.

Act for the Act

Act for the Act will see billboard sites around the country, including buses and 100 tube stations, taken over for the campaign which will feature portraits of nine people who have been helped by the act captured by photographer Peter Moss and designed by North’s Louis Mikolay and Charlie de Grussa.

Martina Brincat-Baines, one of those depicted in the campaign, said: “I thought the Human Rights Act was for other people. I didn’t think it was anything to do with me. But when my daughter Kesia died, I suddenly needed the Human Rights Act. I was able to use it to get the law changed to make sure other vulnerable young people are better protected in future - and that’s why my family is wholeheartedly supporting this campaign.”

Supporters are being urged to log onto a campaign website and sign a petition calling on justice secretary Michael Gove to reconsider opting out of the Human Rights Act.
