Sainsbury’s shutters mobile division as Vodafone partnership crumbles
Sainsbury’s is set to shut up shop on its mobile offering after two years in the game with carrier Vodafone.
From 15 January 2016, the supermarket will cease marketing and stocking the monthly mobile plans from Vodafone after talks between the companies broke down.
Vodafone and Sainsbury’s said in a statement: "We regret that Mobile by Sainsbury's - a joint venture between Sainsbury's and Vodafone UK - offering a mobile phone service to Sainsbury's customers is ending and the service will no longer be available from 15 January 2016.
"Mobile by Sainsbury's priority now is to help its customers and make sure they are inconvenienced as little as possible."
The mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) will shutter following the supermarket’s failure to compete against Tesco Mobile and traditional packages from operators.
