DailyMail.com has announced that its North American chief executive officer Jon Steinberg is set to leave at the end of this year.
The move comes as the company aims to focus more heavily on growing organically instead of through acquisitons and partnerships.
Steinberg joined the Daily Mail in June 2014. During his time there, he helped it acquire Elite Daily and launch Truffle Pig, its joint venture with WPP and Snapchat.
Martin Clarke, CEO and publisher of the company, said that its commercial progress has been “tremendous” since Steinberg joined.
Clarke said: “Our priority now is to concentrate on these investments and execute on our organic growth strategy. We have very amicably agreed that this does not play to Jon’s passions and strengths in pursuing significant acquisitions and partnerships, and he has therefore decided to move on and find his next challenge. He has agreed to stay until the end of the year and will work closely with me to ensure an orderly transition.”
According to a Daily Mail General Trust, the site's parent company, digital advertising revenue grew 16 per cent year-over-year in the 11 month period from September 2014 to August 2015
Of his departure, Steinberg said: “It has been a fantastic period of growth for DailyMail.com in the U.S. I thank Martin and my team for a great experience, building and innovating an advertising business that we are all very proud of.”
Before joining the Daily Mail, Steinberg served as president and chief operating officer at BuzzFeed.
