Viola Davis, Game of Thrones and Lady Gaga were the stars of Twitter during Emmy Awards

During last night’s 67th Primetime Emmy Awards, 'How to Get Away with Murder' star Viola Davis’s win for outstanding actress in a drama followed by her powerful speech as the first black woman to win in that category was the most tweeted-about moment of the evening.

The second most popular moment was when 'Game of Thrones' won outstanding drama series, according to data pulled from Twitter, with Veep's win for outstanding comedy series coming in third.

Presenter and 'American Horror Story: Hotel' star Lady Gaga was the most tweeted-about star of the night, followed by Viola Davis and Jon Hamm, who won outstanding actor in a drama for ‘Man Men.’

'Game of Thrones,' 'Veep,' and 'Orange is the New Black' were the shows that got the most people talking on Twitter during the night.

According to Amobee Brand Intelligence, there were 1,386,621 tweets that directly mentioned the Emmys or Emmys-related hashtags during the awards show. More than 500,000 tweets used the hashtag ‘#Emmys’ specifically and sentiment around the hashtag was 44 per cent positive, 48 per cent neutral, and eight per cent negative.
