Music streaming service Deezer is to launch its first ever UK TV ad campaign on Friday (18 September).

Debuting on Channel 4 during the ad break of the new season of Gogglebox, the creative marks the first time the service has taken to TV screens in the UK for promotional purposes.

Launched in partnership with Channel 4’s Commercial Growth Fund, Deezer says the ad was created by London-based agency pd3 to “appeal to the British sense of humour”.

A 1970s educational style video with voiceover opens the campaign introducing viewers to Deezer and a plethora of rhyme words from freezer to lemon squeezer and campaign anti-hero the ‘Geezer’.

Christian Harris, managing director for Deezer UK & IRL, said: “We wanted to reflect the off-beat and bold personality of Deezer in our first ever UK advertising campaign.

“This ad series has been made with the UK market in mind and we believe it will put the Deezer brand name firmly in minds of music lovers through this unconventional and irreverent creative.”

Jonathan Allan, sales director at Channel 4, added: “In just three months from striking our first Commercial Growth Fund deal with Deezer, they are now launching their first ever TV ad campaign in one of our most popular Friday night shows on Channel 4.”

Allan promised the creative will reached Channel 4’s “core young viewers” helping “Deezer to significantly scale their business through powerful TV-driven awareness”.

The ad comes days after Deezer announced it will revamp its homepage for mobile and web to streamline searches with a new user interface.
