Subway has announced that an internal investigation has uncovered a “serious complaint” about Jared Fogle’s conduct during his time as the brand’s spokesman.

Without revealing the nature of the complaint Subway emphasised there was no criminal activity underlined in it. Fogel, who last month plead guilty to paying for sex acts with underage girls and owning child pornography, was dropped by the brand after he was picked up by police.

Spokeswoman Kristen McMahon admitted that the company received a complaint from journalist Rochelle Herman-Walrond in 2011 who was working with the FBI to gather evidence of Fogel’s wrong-doing.

The complaint reportedly "expressed concerns about Mr. Fogle” mentioning "nothing that implied anything about sexual behavior or criminal activity".

A statement from Subway read: “It is important to note that the investigation found no further evidence of any other complaints of any kind regarding Mr. Fogle that were submitted to or shared with Subway.”

The brand did however express regret that the complaint was "not properly escalated or acted upon".
