Under Armour article

September 10, 2015 | 1 min read

Actor Matt Damon, who stars in director Ridley Scott’s upcoming movie ‘The Martian,’ works out in Under Armour in a teaser for the film ahead of its 2 October release.

The video is the result of a collaboration between agency Droga5 and entertainment giant WME as the two looked for an opportunity that would benefit both of their respective clients.

In the one-minute film called ‘Leave Your Mark,’ Damon’s character Mark Watney is shown doing a series of workouts as part of his pre-mission training program before journeying to Mars.

The ad creates a backstory for the movie, in which the Ares 3 space crew accidentally leaves Watney on Mars after an intense storm.

Under Armour’s role in the promotion is meant to bring some authenticity to the film, which takes place in 2030 and frames astronauts as the current athletes of the time. The brand is billed as ‘Official Partner of the Ares Program’ at the end.

The integration effort was produced by RSA.
