Gary Lineker launches Twitter emoji marking Premier League transfer deadline
Gary Lineker has launched a custom Twitter emoji marking the Premier League transfer deadline; a pen to paper graphic which will appear in any tweet sporting the #DeadlineDay hashtag until midday on 2 September.
Lineker professed to being barely able to ‘contain himself’ after being granted first dibs on the graphic which Twitter hopes will burnish its status as the go to platform of choice for breaking news over who has (and hasn’t) made the window.
Tomorrow just got even more exciting. Twitter have got a #deadlineday emoji and I get first go. Can barely contain myself!

Twitter users were quick to respond, although perhaps not as Linekar would have liked, with many referencing an unfortunate incident in which he took a dump on pitch during the 1990 World Cup.
