Google has released video of its humanoid robot ‘Atlas’ traversing a rough wooded area underlining the great leaps the company has made boosting the kinetic capabilities of such machines.

The video from Google robotics firm Boston Dynamics showed the Atlas robot being tested outdoor for the first time, making its way through a densely wooded area.

Marc Raibert, founder of Boston Dynamics, said the machine offers “mobility that is sort of within shooting range of yours… you can imagine, if we keep pushing we will get there”.

For the conspiracy theorists and Terminator fans, stark footage of a robot performing such advanced movement tasks will be harrowing.

However, on closer inspection, the Atlas is powered by a limiting “power tether” as seen in the video (from 41 seconds onwards).
