McDonald’s has stepped up its use of emojis in its advertising with a new video ad featuring a city full of people with animated 3D emojis for heads.

The fast food chain has previously used the popular mobile icons in its billboard promotions and is now continuing to align itself with the popularity of the communication tool with a colourful new French ad.

The 60 second video follows an emoji man making his way through a bustling city, passing a barbers, a mother and baby, joggers and construction works, all of whom are wearing various oversized animated emojis in place of their heads.

Adding to the effervescent feel of the video is a new rendition of the 1978 classic pop song “Video Killed the Radio Star” which was remixed by Paris based studio Green United Music specifically for the ad.

The film was directed by We Are From L.A, the studio behind Pharrell Williams' “Happy" video.

Emojis have become increasing popular across many spectrums of society including politics, which recently saw democratic front runner,Hillary Clinton, using them over Twitter in an attempt to increase engagement with millennials.

The ad is available to view in full above.
