German auto giant BMW has published an A-Z of its fleet management service Alphabet in a stunt designed to remind the public it had the name long before Google’s shock switch.

The BMW group, owner of Alphabet.com - and the reason Google had to settle for Alphabet.XYZ - had a bit of fun at the tech firm’s expense with the launch of its Alphabet alphabet.

The company released a graphic stating “Alphabet is more than just a name to us”.

On whether there will be any conflict between BMW and Google’s Alphabet domains, the German auto firm said in a statement it is still investigating potential legal action.

Google's surprise landgrab for the Alphabet name was a point of contention for many. Shortly after the announcement, someone trolled the company by establishing the ABC.WTF domain and redirecting it to Google rival Bing.
