We’re always hearing about how teenagers spend too much time on social media, but HTC’s latest spot ‘Rally for Michelle’ shows how platforms like Facebook can help bring young people together and get them through those tough adolescent years.

Voted by US Creative Department readers as ‘Ad of the Week,’ the spot shows a teenage girl named Michelle rushing into her room and angrily throwing her backpack onto the floor. She then sits down at her desk and posts a status to Facebook that says ‘I am nobody’ before she starts to cry.

Seconds later, her phone starts to buzz as messages of support from her friends start streaming in – videos, funny memes, and even an invitation to prom come flooding in to help make her bad day better.

While the ad is a bit sappy, it does a good job of driving its main point home, which is that social channels – and cell phones – can be used as a force for good despite their other negative effects.

The video was created by Butler, Shine, Stern & Partners (BSSP), which plans to roll out other campaigns for the brand this year.

If you’d like to vote for next week’s winner, visit our US Creative Department here. The ad that receives the most votes will be named ‘US Ad of the Week’ next Wednesday.
