As August begins, fall TV is in the air. Last week Found Remote hosted an event and preview on the topic in NYC that included presentations from NBC, Syfy, truTV, MTV, A&E, CNBC and Scripps. SimilarWeb is once again providing Found Remote exclusively with insights and data on which shows are doing best on the major networks' websites as the fall approaches. Here are the charts followed by analysis.

  • June’s most popular television shows in the US for June from all three networks are a varied mix of crime dramas, reality TV shows, comedies, soap operas and sci-fi series.
  • This data is in sharp contrast to the most popular shows on Netflix, which are heavily dominated by comedies
  • The CBS reality TV show Big Brother was the network’s most popular show, with a 53.96% traffic share out of the CBS’s Top 10 most popular shows. It had far more traffic than competing networks, although ABC’s The Chew had 45% share of its own network’s Top 10 traffic
  • CBS’s reality TV series Big Brother, Survivor, and Briefcase brought in 59% of the traffic for the network’s Top 10 shows
  • ABC owned the talk show category in June with The Chew taking in 45% of the network’s Top 10 traffic. NBC’s Tonight Show had less than half that share
  • NBC led the crime drama category with Hannibal and Aquarius bringing in roughly 27% of the network’s Top 10 traffic. CBS’s NCIS and Criminal Minds brought in less than 8% of Top 10 traffic for the competing network
  • CBS dominated the soap opera category with The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful all making it to the network’s Top 10 share of traffic
  • Comedy show traffic was led by NBC with Saturday Night Live and Parks and Recreation, although CBS’s The Big Bang Theory has a strong, cult-like following
  • Finally, let’s not overlook sci-fi and fantasy dramas. ABC’s The Whisperers premiered this year, and was the network’s third most popular show in June, with Once Upon a Time in ninth place
  • Comedies dominate FOX’s top 10 shows list, with 4 out of the top 10 being sitcoms (Family Guy, The Simpsons, Brooklyn Nine Nine and New Girl)
  • The new 10 episode sci-fi drama Wayward Pines is by far the most popular show on Fox in terms of traffic, commanding over 21% of the traffic share from Fox’s Top 10 shows
  • 2 out of the top 3 of Fox’s top 10 are reality TV shows, with So you think you can dance coming in 2nd place and Master Chef following close behind at #3
  • Comedies Brooklyn Nine Nine and New Girl are neck-in-neck in terms of traffic share. It’ll be interesting to see if New Girl surpasses the police comedy next month.
  • The Simpsons is a strong placeholder at #7, as it is FOX’s the longest running show. This is especially noteworthy since it’s an animated sitcom
  • Despite the success of the iconic Simpson’s, Family Guy makes for a very strong competitor at #5 on the list, with over 4% more traffic share
