Musician Taylor Swift has again rocked the music industry with comments slating music streaming service Spotify and praising rival Apple Music.

After a much-publicised row with the Swedish firm over pay, Swift praised Apple for addressing her complaint, stating that artists should be paid for the first three months of the Apple Music trial – contrary to the firm's original plans.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Swift claimed the infamous letter in which the demand was made was indeed penned by her. She added that it was read only by her mother before it was posted online.

The move ultimately influenced Apple to pay artists for streams of their content during the period – albeit at a lower late than rival Spotify. Swift said: “Apple treated me like I was a voice of a creative community that they actually cared about.

“And I found it really ironic that the multi-billion-dollar company reacted to criticism with humility, and the start-up with no cash flow reacted to criticism like a corporate machine.”

Apple Music is over a third into its three month trial where it will be hoping to pin down the majority of users as paid subscribers.
