Chinese e-commerce juggernaut Alibaba has introduced a new sales category for consumers who already have everything they want but cannot conceive, sperm.

The unconventional stock item has been driven by growing infertility and a declining birth rate which has sparked growing interest in sperm banks, leading to a three-day promotion for seven such sites on its daily deals platform.

Following advertisement of a £516 subsidy more than 22,000 men agreed to register as donors online and attend a physical check-up to populate the banks amidst a nationwide shortage. Potential donors are assessed on intelligence and good features when applying, attributes which are highly regarded amongst consumers.

Alibaba has been targeting the healthcare sector for some time offering paternity tests and sperm motility kits to help couples start their families.
