The giant screen overlooking La Croisette at Cannes has been used for a marriage proposal, which The Drum understands, was a successful one.

On a typically sunny Friday afternoon (26 June) in Cannes, the digital screen placed on top of the Grand Hotel in the middle of the sea front, saw an ad run that read: 'Celine, accepterais to de m'epouser?' - translated as 'Celine, will you marry me?'

It is understood that the couple were using a parasol and that the proposal took place while up in the air with a love letter running on the screen as well.

Anthony Ganjou, chief executive of CURB which oversees the content on the screen in partnership with Clear Channel, described the moment as: "Absolutely incredible stuff!"

Around 1,000 people were watching the proposal take place below.

The digital screen, erected two years ago ahead of the annual advertising festival, is understood to be one of the largest in the world.
