The Daily Mail launches TV series

The Daily Mail is expanding into TV with the launch of an online TV series ‘Daily Mail TV’ which will be hosted by US television presenter Dr Phil McGraw and will focus on showbiz and online trending topics.

The show will extend the reach of the world's most read newspaper site and will be produced by McGraw's Stage 29 Productions.

The announcement was made aboard the Daily Mail’s boat today during Cannes Lions 2015. The new syndicated TV series will have anchors in London, New York, Sydney and Los Angeles and is scheduled to launch in autumn 2016.

"This is going to be part of and Daily Mail, it is a complete integration of the two teams. This is not a gimmick," said publisher Martin Clarke to the gathered media at a press conference at Cannes.

McGraw added: "Daily Mail is not afraid to shake it up and get to the real truth of the are going to see things that people will be talking about the next morning."

In response to a question by The Drum, McGraw revealed that a first look deal has been agreed with CBS Distribution.

"It will first be offered to the market in August and September this year," he added. "We have not offered it for sale yet."

"In syndication it is sold market by market and makes money through licence fees for barter and advertising," with the show being sold internationally.

Clarke said that all of the Daily Mail staff would be involved with a IAS towards the U.S. team.
