WPP's Ogilvy & Mather has announced that its worldwide chairman and CEO Miles Young will retire next year to become Warden of his alma mater, New College at Oxford University.

He will continue in his current role until September of 2016.

The 61-year-old has spent the last 32 years at the agency. In 1995 he became chairman of its Asia Pacific location and took on the role of global CEO in 2009. He was named chairman in 2012.

Of his departure, Young said: "This was a difficult decision, but the attraction of moving to a senior academic position in the UK was very great. Ogilvy & Mather and WPP have been part of my life for 32 years, and the intention is not to part company, but to be available to advise and consult, which I look forward to doing.”

According to the company, he will continue to work closely with both Ogilvy and WPP on a non-executive basis once he leaves.
