Google pitches in for Tesco’s data arm as the hunt for Dunhhumby heats up
Google is among the firms looking at acquiring down-on-its-luck retailer Tesco’s data department Dunnhumby.
The search giant is reportedly looking to engage in a joint takeover of the firm which handles the supermarket’s Clubcard scheme, according to Sky News.
Both Google and UK buyout firm Permira are alleged to be interested in an acquisition.
An anonymous source told Sky News that the firms would be looking to roll-out Dunnhumby's customer loyalty rewards which shot Tesco onto the global scene in the noughties.
Advertising group WPP - with the help of General Atlantic Partners - is also reputed to be in the running for Tesco’s loyalty card wing, keen to utilise Dunnhumby’s wellspring of consumer insights.
