Starcom Mediaviest Group (SMG) has promoted Robin Clarke to the newly created position of managing director, EMEA for Sports.

Clarke, who was previously MD for the sports marketing department for the UK, will be responsible for driving growth for the Sports arm - which has expanded to the US, South Africa and Russia - across the EMEA regions.

He will be replaced by Ben Cronin, who will take up the mantle of UK managing director.

Iain Jacob, SMG president, EMEA, said: “Robin is a talented and accomplished leader and his impressive track-record demonstrates his entrepreneurial spirit and ability to grow markets.

“His focus on strong performance has delivered significant growth across the region and I look forward to working with him as he builds on the success we are seeing from our sports marketing practice.”

Clarke added: “We have an amazing team in place and I’m enormously proud of what we have achieved in a short space of time.

“I’m thrilled to hand over the reins of the UK business to Ben, I really can’t think of a better person to drive the next phase in Sports at SMG’s growth path in the UK.”

Cronin will take over day-to-day management of the UK client business.

Sports at SMG EMEA counts Heineken, Samsung, Capital One, Europcar, The NFL, P&G and Betway among its clients.
