The creator of Family Guy, the TV show which famously predicted Caitlyn Jenner's transition before her Vanity Fair reveal, stated he is "too savvy" to be dragged into discussing the move.

Seth MacFarlane, the creator of the animated TV show, aired a scene where character Stewie Griffin called Jenner "an elegant, beautiful Dutch woman" back in 2009.

Careful not to provide the Huffington Post with a soundbite on the decision to run with the joke, MacFarlane said he was “too savvy to comment on the issue to the media”.

MacFarlane added that he would discuss the Jenner skit “once the outrage industry shuts down,” looking to avoid a media storm around the dated joke.

“I will be happy to have an adult conversation about all of this stuff anytime anyone wants, but, even though I’m on the side of support, I just don’t think there’s any way to … you just got to play it safe because the climate is just too charged. Anything I say can and will be used against me.

"My philosophy is live and let live, and if something makes someone happy, and they're able to do it -- as long as it isn’t hurting anybody -- live and let live."

Following Jenner unveiling herself as Caitlyn, the figure very quickly became the fastest person to amass a following of 1m people on Twitter.
