BBC Advertising, part of BBC Worldwide and broadcaster's commercial arm, has appointed Alistair McEwan as senior vice president of commercial development in Asia, Australia and New Zealand as its looks to capitalise on growth opportunities in the region

McEwan, who joined BBC Worldwide in July 2013 as VP for BBC Advertising ANZ, will now be responsible for the delivery of advertising sales revenues from the Asia-Pacific territory on a range of BBC properties including BBC World News, BBC.com and Top Gear.

Reporting to Carolyn Gibson, executive vice president (EVP) of BBC Advertising, McEwan will also remain part of the ANZ leadership team under managing director Jon Penn, as well as join the Asia leadership team under David Weiland, EVP and general manager of Asia.

McEwan will also provide sales and business leadership to his senior management team of sales vice presidents, whilst further developing the capabilities of the sales team across the region.

Gibson said of the appointment: “For this expanded, strategic role, which is responsible for the whole of BBC Worldwide and BBC Global News' portfolio across the region, we were looking for someone who can lead and integrate the teams and drive new commercial opportunities."

McEwan will take up the role on 1 July 2015 and work from both the Singapore and Sydney offices.
