Alzheimer’s Research UK has used a host of famous faces including the late Sir Terry Pratchett and actors Seth Rogen and James Nesbitt for the charity's first TV and cinema ad campaign.

Launched today (1 June) the Fightback campaign, created by ais London, looks to increase awareness of Alzheimer’s Research UK and to establish the charity as the leader in research for dementia.

Running throughout June the ad features archiveTV news footage sourced by ITN Productions to communicate the core message that with enough support, research for dementia can deliver the same advances made for other diseases such as cancer and AIDS.

Tim Parry, head of communications at Alzheimer’s Research UK explained the thinking behind the spot.

"To give us the best chance of beating the condition sooner, we wanted this advert to have a disruptive approach in educating the public, to challenge people’s perception that nothing can be done to tackle diseases like Alzheimer’s, and to demonstrate that research has already gone a long way in taming other serious diseases and can do the same for dementia.”

TV personality Arlene Phillips, Dame Joan Bakewell and broadcaster Katie Derham also appear in the ad.

The media buying was managed by London-based agency Rocket.
