David Lynch uses Twitter to reveal return to Twin Peaks revival
Just weeks after walking out on the project, enigmatic director David Lynch used Twitter to reveal his return and that he would direct the sequel to his cult hit Twin Peaks.
He pulled out of the project last month following a funding dispute with the show’s backers the Showtime network. However, in a suitably offbeat move, the director tweeted: “Dear Twitter Friends, the rumours are not what they seem…it is!!! Happening again. #TwinPeaks returns on @SHO_Network.”

The post was backed by Showtime’s president David Nevins, who referenced one of the show’s most memorable lines in a statement. “This damn fine cup of coffee from [series creators] Mark and David tastes more delicious than ever.
“Totally worth the extra brewing time and the cup is even bigger that we expected….Pre-production starts now!!”
Lynch will direct the whole series, while star of the original Kyle MacLachlan also returns as Special Agent Cooper.
Showtime announced the cult hit’s revival last October and plans to release it next year. However, the buzz around the announcement was dampened when Lynch walked away from the project after 16 months of negotiations with the network had not led to an agreement on production costs.
His departure caused a social media storm when fans and members of the original cast championed his return.
Twin Peaks ran for two seasons from 1990 to 1991 and revolved around an FBI investigator’s efforts to resolve a mysterious murder in a quirky town. It became one of the standout shows of the decade and has inspired everything from video games to The Simpsons.
