At the final IAB Mobile Engage event, The Drum caught up with some of the industry’s most influential players to get their thoughts on the mobile advertising industry today.

Rob Newland, head of EMEA Creative Shop, Facebook and Instagram, rubbished the idea that digital had led to a negative democratisation of creativity.

"There’s a lot of talk about democratisation of creativity from platforms like Instagram,” he said. “That’s actually a bit rude to people. With 70 million photos uploaded a day, instead it’s an acceleration of creativity. It’s adding to the understanding of creativity and pushing the bar far higher.”

Brands too were encouraged to raise the bar of their creative craft in how they engaged people on the platform.

Newlan also discussed how Instagram was set to become art gallery of the future and how platforms like Instagram were far from pacifiers but in fact acted to inspire action in people.
