Mobile pay app, Square, has hired Mary Kay Bowman, who most recently worked for Amazon, launching Amazon Local Register, a product that was created to rival Square.

According to her LinkedIn bio, Bowman will be the head of payment partnerships and operations. In this role, she will help the brand expand globally.

“Mary Kay brings to Square more than 20 years of experience in global payments strategy, across commerce initiatives both online and offline,” a spokeswoman for Square told re/Code. “We’re thrilled she’s joined us.”

Bowman’s exit from Amazon comes after she spent more than a decade with the company. This move, along with other recent high-level departures from the brand’s commerce department arouses questions over its dedication to the cause.
