Pizza Hut is receiving unexpected press today after a Florida woman used the pizza chain’s app to free herself from a hostage situation.

Cheryl Treadway and her children were being held hostage by Treadway’s boyfriend Ethan Nickerson.

While Nickerson hadn’t allowed Treadway to make any calls or sent any texts, he eventually gave her permission to order a pizza through the app.

In the comments section of the order, Treadway wrote “Please help! Get 911 to me.” and “911 hostage help.”

Pizza Hut employees who received the order immediately called 911 who dispatched police officers to the scene.

The incident brings attention to the diverse and surprising uses of seemingly commonplace apps.
