Periscope dominates Meerkat in initial sign-ups
Periscope attracted more than one million users during its first ten days, while its competitor, Meerkat, saw 120,000 users in its first three weeks.
The Periscope figures were released yesterday by chief executive Dick Costolo during Twitter’s earnings call with investors.
While the initial numbers are impressive, it is unknown whether it will maintain the momentum moving forward.
“I’m super excited and confident in the ability to grow the Periscope user base,” said Costolo.
Regardless of the fact that Periscope has been embraced by industry leaders like AOL’s Tim Armstrong, it has come under fire from major networks like HBO for the piracy risks it poses.
The above numbers only reflect Periscope’s success among Apple users, as it has yet to be made available on Android.
