Cooking website Epicurious has rolled out a ‘Smart Timer’ app for the Apple Watch and iPhone.

It’s the first brand out of the Condé Nast family to make an app for the smart watch and serves as an extension of the ‘Epicurious Recipes & Shopping List’ iPhone app.

To use the ‘Smart Timer,’ users must choose a recipe from their iPhone app. The watch then serves as a complementary device that provides a countdown mechanism along with small tips and photos regarding the recipe.

For example, when cooking a flank steak, the watch will provide an image of what the finished product should look like along with the directions: “Remove steak from pan and let rest five minutes. Then slice across the grain for maximum tenderness.” Users then have the option to choose ‘Finished’ or ‘Add Extra Time.”

Users can choose from more than 40 ingredients out of five categories: steak, vegetables, chicken & pork, seafood, and eggs.
