Sammy Griney, the kid better known as the ‘Success Kid’ meme, has seen a crowdfunding campaign created to secure his father a kidney, perform above and beyond the $75,000 asking price.

The eight-year-old’s mother Laney Griney launched a campaign on GoFundMe last week to secure her husband Justin Griner a kidney. It has seen a total of 3,808 people donate $80,005 in six days.

On the success of the crowdfunding scheme, Laney Griney told ABC News: “It's just all been really amazing, it never stops being weird, and it never stops being awesome.

“Six years on dialysis is getting to be a long time, it's wearing on him... I just want to get him healthy."

The Success Kid’s popularity has aided in seeing the post shared a combined 1.8k times, across Facebook and Twitter.

The GoFundMe reads: “Justin is a 39-year-old father of one in need of a kidney transplant. Please help us reach our goal so that Justin may get the pre-treatments and transplant he desperately needs. His mother died from this disease, please help us write a different story for Justin and his son, Sam.

“Thank you for your consideration and for any help you can provide to help our family reach this goal.”

This comes after Mrs Griner in February, filed a lawsuit at a Florida court threatening to sue a fireworks company using the Success Kid’s likeness on its packaging.
