The Massachusetts State Police force has issued a blanket ban of drones during the Boston Marathon this Monday.

Marking two years since the Boston marathon tragedy which killed three people and left more than 260 wounded, police have instructed their security detail to forbid the use of UAVs with the area dubbed a ‘No Drone Zone’.

The 26.2-mile course will be patrolled by “uniformed and plain clothed law enforcement officers” to enforce the ban.

A release from the police service read: “The entire route of the Boston Marathon will be a ‘No Drone Zone.’

“The public is being advised NOT to operate any type of drone (unmanned aerial vehicle), including remotely controlled model aircraft, over or near the course, or anywhere within sight of runners or spectators.”

Furthermore, spectators are encouraged from possessing weapons, backpacks, suitcases, glass containers, canisters, flammable liquids, fuels, fireworks, explosives, large blankets, duvets, sleeping bags, costumes covering the face and props (including sporting equipment and military and fire gear).

Although it is more common than ever for drones to be used to shoot stunning aerial practise, the tech has been banned in this instance under fears it could be used to co-ordinate a terror attack.
