Twitter discussions have ruined Idris Elba’s chances of being the next James Bond
British actor Idris Elba, who has starred in hit US TV shows such as HBO's The Wire, has unofficially been on fans’ radars as the possible next James Bond for some time.
However, he has now said that all the public attention surrounding the matter has diminished his chances of landing the role.
According to Elba, the rumors were inadvertently started by current Bond star Daniel Craig, about four years ago when he commented that Elba would make a great Bond. From there Twitter exploded with chatter over the choice. Some were ecstatic, while others wondered if a black Bond was appropriate.
However, Elba has now said that the discussions have done more harm than good.
“Honestly, it’s a rumor that’s really starting to eat itself,” Elba said at the British Film Institute this week. "If there was ever any chance of me getting Bond, it’s gone."

Roger Moore says Idris Elba as Bond wouldn't be "realistic." Because if anything defines the Roger Moore Bond films, it's realism.
