Time magazine’s newest cover explores the shooting of Walter Scott – an unarmed black man who was chased and shot by a South Carolina police officer.

There have been many similar deaths of black men at the hands of police officers, only this time, the officer has been fired and charged with murder.

This response is due in part to a shaky cell-phone video recorded by a bystander.

"Before the video emerged, the killing of Walter Scott had occupied the same contested territory in which hundreds of other cases have languished and festered—famous cases, like the killings of Eric Garner in New York and Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., and other cases that barely register in the police blotter," wrote David Von Drehle in Time.

Since the shooting, the Mayor of Charleston has ordered hundreds of body cameras for the police force, mandating that officers wear them while on duty.
